תיאטרון חיפה- משכן התיאטרון ע"ש מאירהוף- The joseph Rebecca Meyerhoff Theatre of Haifa

בלב ליבה של העשייה התרבותית הענפה בעיר חיפה, המהווה מטרופולין של אירועי תרבות ואיכות, ניצב כבר שנים רבות התיאטרון העירוני הראשון בישראל- תיאטרון חיפה.
 
תיאטרון חיפה נוסד בשנת 1961, ביוזמתו של ראש עיריית חיפה דאז, אבא חושי, בתמיכתה של מועצת העיר. תיאטרון חיפה היה התיאטרון העירוני היוצר הראשון בישראל, והראשון להקים מערך שיווקי של מפעלי מנויים, במטרה לקרב את תושבי העיר ליצירה התיאטרלית ולהרחיב את המעגל התרבותי של העיר.

מאז ועד היום פועל תיאטרון חיפה כתיאטרון יוצר המעודד את העשייה התיאטרלית על כל גווניה. תיאטרון חיפה מהווה בית וקרש קפיצה למחזאים ויוצרים ישראלים, מעודד מחזאות מקורית, ומלווה יוצרים בתחילת דרכם. חנוך לוין, הלל מיטלפונקט, יהושע סובול, א.ב. יהושע, יוסף בר יוסף, דני הורוביץ ואחרים החלו כאן את דרכם המקצועית.

תיאטרון חיפה הקפיד תמיד להיות חלק מהעיר חיפה, ולהישאר מעורה בחברה בה הוא פועל. התיאטרון מנהל דיאלוג מתמיד עם הקהילה הערבית בחיפה, במטרה ליצור דו קיום בין הקהילות מבחינה תרבותית, ומהווה בית גם ליוצרים ולשחקנים ערביים.

תיאטרון חיפה רואה לעצמו חובה לא רק לספק הנאה לקהל הפוקד אותו, כי אם גם להעלות נושאים בוערים, אנושיים וחברתיים, על סדר היום. הצגות התיאטרון נוגעות בדוקומנטרי, החברתי, הפוליטי כמו גם באנושי והמחנך, היחס לחריגים בחברה ועוד.

הצגות תיאטרון חיפה מוצגות ברחבי הארץ מצפון ועד דרום, וכן מוזמנים להופיע ברחבי העולם. מנויי התיאטרון נהנים מהצגות הבית האיכותיות, לצד הצגות נבחרות ממיטב התיאטראות בארץ.

בתיאטרון הוקמה מחלקה חינוכית היוזמת יצירת דיאלוג עם תלמידים בבתי ספר הבאים לצפות בהצגות, להיפגש עם יוצרים ולהתרשם מהעשייה התיאטרלית שמאחורי הקלעים, כל זה במטרה לרתום את הנוער כפוטנציאל לקהל עתידי של שוחרי תיאטרון.

תיאטרון חיפה מוביל עשייה אחראית ומקצועית לדור העתיד המתבטא בעיקר בפסטיבל חיפה הבינלאומי להצגות ילדים, פסטיבל זה הינו פסטיבל יוצר ראשון ויחיד מסוגו בארץ, ונחשב לאחד מהמובילים בעולם. בין ההצגות בפסטיבל ניתן למצוא הצגות המיועדות לילדים ממגזרים שונים, כמו – ערבים וחרדים, המבטאות את ייחודה של העיר חיפה ככור היתוך וסמל להידברות ולקיום משותף של מגוון אוכלוסיות.

לצד הצגות הילדים, מציע הפסטיבל תיאטרון רחוב באוויר הפתוח ומארח קבוצות תיאטרון מרחבי העולם. המופעים בפסטיבל מספקים חוויה מרתקת לילדים, המעשירה את הדמיון ומחזקת את המודעות לעולם התיאטרון. מעבר למסרים החינוכיים, החברתיים והאמנותיים החיוניים כל כך להתפתחות הילד, מעניק החיבור בין קהל הילדים לנעשה על הבמה עומק ומרחב חשיבה תרבותי, הסולל את הדרך לקהל עתידי של שוחרי תיאטרון. פסטיבל מבקרים למעלה מ 60,000 איש.

At the heart of the extensive cultural activity in the city of Haifa, which is a metropolis of cultural events and quality, has stood for many years the first urban theater in Israel - the Haifa Theatre.

Haifa Theatre was founded in 1961, at the initiative of the then mayor of Haifa, Abba Hushi, with the support of the city council. The Haifa Theatre was the first creative urban theater in Israel, and the first to establish a subscription marketing enterprise, in order to bring the city's residents closer to theatrical creation and expand the city's cultural circle.

Since then, Haifa Theatre has been a creative theater that encourages theatrical activity in all its forms.

Haifa Theatre is a home and a springboard for Israeli playwrights and creators, encouraging original plays and accompanies creators at the beginning of their careers. Hanoch Levin, Hillel Mittelpunkt, Yehoshua Sobol, AB Yehoshua, Joseph Bar Yosef, Danny Horowitz and others began their professional careers here.

Haifa Theatre has always been a part of the city of Haifa and remains a part of the society in which it operates. The theatre conducts a constant dialogue with the Arab community in Haifa, with the aim of creating cultural coexistence between the communities, and is also home to Arab artists and actors.

Haifa Theatre sees itself as a duty not only to provide the audience with pleasure, but also to raise burning issues, human and social, on the agenda. The Theatre’s plays relate to the documentary, the social, the political as well as the human and the educator, the attitude towards exceptions in society and more. 

Haifa Theatre’s plays are performed throughout the country from north to south, and are invited to perform worldwide.

The audience of the Haifa Theatre is composed of all ages - from adults to young people.

The theatre established an educational department that initiates a dialogue with students in schools who come to watch the plays, meet with the artists and be impressed by the theatrical activity behind the scenes, with the aim of harnessing the youth as a potential future audience of theater fans.

Haifa Theatre leads responsible and professional work for the future generation, which is mainly expressed in the Haifa International Children’s Theater Festival. This festival is the first and only festival of its kind in Israel and is considered one of the world's leading children’s festivals.

Among the plays in the festival are plays designed for children from different sectors, such as Arabs and ultra-Orthodox, who express the uniqueness of the city of Haifa as a melting pot and a symbol of dialogue and coexistence of a variety of populations. Alongside the children's shows, the festival offers open-air street theater and hosts theater groups from around the world.

The performances at the festival provide a fascinating experience for children, enriching the imagination and strengthening the awareness of the theater world. Beyond the educational, social and artistic messages that are so vital to the development of the child, the connection between the children's audience and what goes on the stage provides depth and space for cultural thinking, paving the way for a future audience of theater fans.  The festival attracts more than 60,000 people.
